Well, when it rains, it pours! It's been a
crazzzzzzzzzy last few days and we knew that this week was going to be a rough one. We just didn't anticipate an emergency with one of our children thrown in there, but that's what we got. Avery fell off the couch on Thursday afternoon and fractured her left elbow. I had a pile of laundry on the couch and she kept saying, "Mommy look I'm climbing a mountain". She landed funny and couldn't move her left arm for a bit. When she finally could move it, it was very clearly hurting her. So off to the pediatrician we went who then sent us to Texas Children's to have
xrays. Ironically, I was just at Texas Children's that morning for Cate's GI follow up appointment! We had to wait until Friday morning to see the orthopedic and ended up with a snazzy purple cast.
Avery was a trooper through it all...it was so, so very sad to see her in pain. It was especially hard for me to watch her unsuccessfully fight back tears as they
manuvered her arm into different positions during the
xrays. She was trying so hard to be a big girl and I was trying so hard to be strong for her and not to bawl. But seeing her hurting and anxious was really tough.
We went back to Texas
Childrens on Friday morning to have the cast put on...three trips to
TCH in 24 hours! I have nothing but great things to say about
TCH West. They are amazing and are so quick and easy. We were done with the entire cast procedure and on our way back home in an hour. We were taken back for
xrays within 10 minutes of walking in the door. They are so great that they even gave Avery's elephant a matching cast...simply because she asked if elephant could have one too.
She will be in the cast for three weeks and then they will take it off and do
xrays again to see how it healed. The hairline fracture was very small. Avery got to pick a special treat out for being such a brave girl...and our budding princess choose a Cinderella
playset. I think we're about to enter the princess phase with this girl! We're so thankful that this wasn't anything more serious and we're praying for her elbow/arm to heal completely.
