First Day of School

My baby girl started Mother's Day Out today and she did so great! There was much anxiety on my part...would she cry for too long after I left, would she really take a nap, would she eat a good lunch, would she like her teachers, would she miss me too much, would I miss HER too much?!?! Ahhhhhhh...motherhood can be so tiring and stressful, but so worth it when you get to see this sweet little face after a few hours apart. Be prepared for lots of pictures... Avery's first day of school went just as I expected it to. All my stress was unnecessary and in the back of my head, I knew she would do just fine. We talked it up...talked about playing with her teachers and singing songs and even sleeping on her nap mat. We practiced the day before and she laid on her nap mat and squirmed and fidgeted which was a foreshadowing of what she would do at school:) She marched right into her classroom, we hung all her gear up and she started playing immediately. She was a little teary when I hugged and kissed her goodbye, but when I snuck out and looked through the window, no tears were streaming... ...until I got to the car and called Mark! I was sad! She's my little buddy, we're together all the time and I felt naked without her. It felt unnatural to be driving around with an empty car seat. Luckily I went to work for a few hours and it was able to take my mind off of missing her. I looked at the clock many, many times wondering what she was doing at that exact moment. When I picked her up (10 minutes early might I add:) she was laying on her nap mat like a sweet girl, wide awake of course. A few kids actually slept, but mine had not a bit of sleep at all. Just as I expected! She rested and was quiet and still for the most part, but did not sleep. We got in the car and she had a special present waiting for her in her car seat. She loved her new giraffe and Elmo book. So much that giraffe HAD to come into the mall with us after school. We shared a cookie, rode the train and walked around since I had no clue what to do with our LONG afternoon! Not having nap time really threw my routine off too. It's almost dinner time and she's still going strong- she hasn't been fussy at all. I'm so proud of my big girl and can hardly believe she's old enough to be going to school. We love her teachers, her class seems great and I am so happy with where we chose to put her in school. I pray for her teachers as they teach her and mold her this year. And I pray that she has a fabulous first year of "school". We love you Avery...you're such a big girl now!
